Sharing articles and copyright
20 Oct 2013, 1:52 PM

Sharing things you’ve seen elsewhere and found useful is a great way to start a conversation on Virtual Hospice. If the article struck you, it will likely also resonate with other people in our community.

However, a fellow community member, JennJilks, pointed out that people need to be aware of copyright rules. It is illegal to repost an entire article even if you give credit to the original author. You need permission too.

If you wish to share something you’ve read online, this is what I suggest:
  1. Quote part of the article or summarize it in your own words.
  2. Provide a link and cite the original source (website or publisher) and/or author (if available).
  3. Add your thoughts. For example, why you like the article or what you found to be the most interesting or helpful part or relate it back to your experience(s).
