Welcome espoir.

I am glad you joined our virtual community.

Your nickname is a beautiful one and matches the quote so well - Hope. The quote by Churchill is a powerful one - at the time it was spoken I imagine others may have been tempted to give up.  Are these words particularly meaningful for you right now?

Hello espoir

I think I may have found a kindred spirit, for I too love quotes.  I have collected quotes for years now and I have an eclectic collection spanning many topics.

Your quote is very important, as it frames a very important quality of a person’s character.  A person who never gives up, has a strong will, perseverance, and a positive attitude. The most important element of such a character is the ability to maintain hope in the face of all situations.

And this hope is not unrealistic.  In my role as a hospice volunteer, I see hope on display every day.  It is best typified in the quote below:

“Hope not for the impossible, but never lose hope that the next moment can be better than the last.”  - unknown

At the end stage of one’s life, hoping for comfort, a moment free of pain is very meaningful. Hoping for connection with another human being is a call from a hurting soul to a compassionate soul.  Such hope glows eternal.

Each Thursday I share one of my favourite quotes on Virtual Hospice under “Reflections and Inspiration”.  The purpose is twofold: firstly to share uplifting thoughts and secondly to elicit responses, in hope that we all learn from one another.

Espoir, I invite you to join and contribute to these discussions.  Thank you for sharing Winston Churchill’s fine words.

My favourite quote is: "Always be kinder than necessary.  You never know the burden that someone is carrying." unknown

eKIM, I love that quote too, and use it often!
the other that I firmly believe in is "if you have it in you to dream, you have it in you to succeed"
to the best of my knowledge it came from an Inuit elder in Inuvik.

You are frightened of death because you have postponed it.

A favourite quote is:  But for God, go I"

This  not only covers my inadequacies, my doubts, my fears, but knowing a higher power keeps me going in my dealing with my husband's cancer and palliative needs.

Often when I am at my wits end, I think badly and somewhere my higer power keeps me on the right pathy of acceptance and knowing I have the ability to go on.

Dear Xenia

Your posting touches my heart.  I have collected quotes for many years.  In as much as you appear to be a spiritual person, I thought that I would share these quotes with you.

I hope that you find peace in your heart.  I hope this gives you comfort.

You are so welcome to share your thoughts with us here on Virtual Hospice.  You will find compassionate listeners to help and encourage you.

What have you found to be helpful during these difficult times?  How do you manage your emotions?  Do you have a good support group of people?

Here are the quotes:

“Faith is seeing light with your heart when your eyes only see darkness.”  - unknown

“I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.”  - Abraham Lincoln

“Your head tells you where others want you to be, your heart tells you where your ties are, but listening to your soul...tells you where to go.”  - unknown

“God when I lose hope, help me to remember that your love is greater than my disappointments and your plans for my life are better than my dreams.”  - unknown

“If you trust your soul, you know that you can trust your path.”  - unknown

“God knows and understands the hopes and fears you keep in your heart.  When you trust in His love, miracles happen.”  - unknown

“Faith is daring the soul to go beyond what the eye can see.”  - unknown

I post this poem with the intention of offering hope to those who are hurting and to those who offer hope to those who are hurting.  - eKim

Hope Balloon

i’m holding my hope as a trial balloon

i’m losing my grip and watching it zoom
i’m weighted down, heavy with sorrow
where is your hope that i might borrow

grasp my balloon
don’t let it slip away
hold it for me
just for this day

please hold my hand
don’t say you understand
you cannot know the pain i feel
for you, it is imagined, for me it is real

take off your cold glove
i need your warm love
and don’t be a verbal initiator
for silence is the great communicator

When precious souls are hurting, sometimes hope seems to be floating away.  All one can do is simply temporarily hold the string of their "Hope Balloon" until they are ready to grasp onto it themselves. I volunteer in hospice palliative care, grief and bereavement.  I have seen how hope is an integral part of our human existence.
