Lloyd Cowin Chapeau levé!

Lloyd Cowin Thank you to Founding Executive Director of Roger's House
juin 01, 2015

Message from Lloyd Cowin, our Executive Director

After 8 years at Roger’s House and 12 years at CHEO, all of which have been very stimulating and rewarding, I announced my retirement to the Roger’s House Board of Directors and CHEO Senior
Management. It was not an easy decision - because I enjoy my job, working with a tremendously dedicated team of staff, physicians and volunteers, and because we are entering an exciting time for Roger’s House
and pediatric palliative care.

The next few years will likely bring many positive changes to our services. It is important for my health to retire at this time. Many of you know, I have Parkinson’s disease and it is time for me to focus on doing what I can to minimize its impact. All of the families I have met along the way have had a great influence on
me and my outlook on life. I thank you all for that.

On behalf of the staff, families and volunteers, Thank you Lloyd for your work and dedication.

Lloyd Cowin took on the challenge in 2005 to work collaboratively with Marion Rattray, RN and Palliative Care Manageer at CHEO, to develop Ontario’s first pediatric palliative care hospice. He accepted the responsibility as Executive Director.

Roger’s House, named in memory of Hockey Coach Roger Neilson, opened it’s doors in May 2006. Lloyd worked collaboratively with the interprofessional team to develop and create this new service for Ontario residents. His leadership skills, great listening skills and love of people are all attributes that made Roger’s House team, families and volunteers engage in creating the services.

He continued to thrive to offer the best care to children/youth and families accessing the Roger’s House services. Lloyd left a positive impact on everyone he met and worked with during his time with Roger’s House.

Lloyd has been retired for one year now, keeping busy with travelling, golfing and volunteering in the community! Best wishes Lloyd, Take A Bow for having a positive impact for Palliative Care.
