I'm devastated, it's been a horrible year, he had lung, brain cancer and swollen lymphs. Worst year ever. Just wanted to connect with others. He died a month ago. Still in awful shape right now.

Hi Angie6,

My heart goes out to you. I wish we could have been able to support you this past year as you dealt with the many emotions that a cancer diagnosis can bring but now that you have found this site I hope that you come back often to share your sadness. Many of us have gone through similar losses and through this site we have found a place to unload our emotions with people who truly understand and bring so much comfort when we need to cry, rage, or just want to vent. Sometimes sharing the load makes things just a bit more bearable.

Dear Angie6, my 54 yr old hubby, (we had been married 31 yrs and known each other for 36 yrs) died 4 weeks ago today from brain cancer. I thought I was prepared and I was so wrong!! You are not alone although there are times when I feel so alone but this chat room is filled with awesome poeple who are a great support for us who have just began this ....I don't even know what to call it right now
I am so sorry for your loss, the pain is so intense and unforgiving, but I try to find all of the blessings and silver linings in the last year and a half. Believe me at times it can be hard as I am sure you know.
Everything is so fresh and raw along with the whirlwind of emotions that it is indescribable!
Please keep talking because I really believe it helps...

Dear Angie6

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  I can’t imagine what you are going through.  Actually, no one can, because each person’s story, their personality, their relationships, and their path is unique.  I suppose that could be the “bad news”.

The “good news” I believe is that here, at Virtual Hospice, you will find others who are on paths similar to yours.  These people have had other “perfect” strangers, reach out to them with loving-kindness.  So now they, with gratitude, want to reach out to you as “perfect” strangers.

I am using the term “perfect” metaphorically however, I think you know what I mean.  In today’s world, the term “stranger” can have negative connotations, however, I have found that it has a very positive side as well, for after all, the quote says, “Strangers are simply friends that we haven’t yet met.”  And like Blanche Dubois says in “The Streetcar Named Desire”.  “I have often depended on the kindness of strangers.”

So to sum up my “Philosophy 101”  lol:  We here at Virtual Hospice are not perfect, however, “Stick with us, kid and we won’t long be strangers.”  Pour your heart out; we are listening compassionately.

- eKim  (one of your new friends-to be)
