Jimmie, your wit, wisdom and unending compasson, coupled with your always loving thoughts and words, have served as more than a candle for so many of us here.  They have formed an endless beacon of hope, lighting the darkness of our days.

May your Christmas with Sarah and your family include all the love, joy, tenderness and kindness that you so readily share with your friends here.  And may all of this also benefit our entire community.

Good Morning All on Winters/Solstice Day:  The shortest day of the year.

Reading all the emails has me thinking that we all share the same ups and downs.  Old Bat days from hell come and go.  I had a few of them this past week, John has started wandering unexpectedly from his bed.  ie.  This a.m. getting out of the shower, 6:30 a.m. thinking he was still asleep after having a sleepless night.  There he is with his walker, into my house coat, get him settled in his chair, dripping all over the rug, what the hey it will be cleaned in the spring.  Give him his insulin, pills, etc, then give him cold cereal this. am.  didn;t take time to cook his oatmeal, got him settled in, have a coffee on the run, driping dry by now.  Hair all askew, but what the heck it is naturally curly so I don;t have to spend $$$ to have the curls that one sees now on so many women.  Back to sleep he goes, and I contiue with my day.

Getting ready for Christmas, the kids surpised me, sorta with a day off, I went to the Legion Ladies Christmas luncheon and they had a couple of ladies come in and spic and span our condo.  Sure looks good and all my plastic containers are lined up with their lids on waiting for me to distrub them, I have a habit of tossing them into the cupboard when I am having a bad day and can;t wait to put them in order.

I have more hours of care for John and I am going to lock myself in the second bedroom/computer room and sleep.  I seem to be very tired lately and I know it is from listening to John in the night.  Went out yesterday and had a good time, to-day John gets his care aid to give him a light wash, tomorrow he gets his all over shower.
Nurse came over and we have good report and they visit twice a week.  All in all, things are going well, other than John fell right on top of my leg with his walker, a few days ago, took his brake off before he got up and wham, then the same evening he fell by the bed and wrecked the comode, good thing he is a palliative patient as all this is covered by health care, not the walker that is ours.  He has a new hospital bed so that helps.

Not much else going on, sorry to hear about the problems we all share but looking forward to Christmas and the gang getting over here for brunch.  Will have that instead of turkey dinner as it is easier for those coming from Vancouver to our home and then heading back to their other relatives for the big dinner.  Need some quiet time anyhow as I noted that a lot of commotion distrubs John for a long time after.

Off I go, have to do a moment of relaxation before John gets up, meaning finishing off my coffee and checking the lunch menu, changed it as he eats his large meal at lunch now and a small soup and sandwich in the evening as he is very tired by then.

Take care and Have A Happy and Merry Christmas. Wishing you this early in case I don;t get to the computer in the next few days.

Hugs to All.

I want to pass along a greeting to all of you before the day gets too long.

I taught in the public school system for thirty five years. One of my best friends on staff was the librarian.  One year she gave me a book of etymology, the history of words, and it remains a favourite text of mine. A year or two ago I was asked to address a small group of health care professionals at our local hospital, and out of curiosity I decided to research the history of that word - "hospital".  Turns out the word  comes from the Latin "hospitale" and is related to various other familiar words such as host, hospitality, hospitable, hospice, and hostel.  Originally, the word "hospital" referred to a small guest house, inn, or shelter built, by the side of the road to offer comfort, safety, nourishment to those in need of a place to rest from their travels. Such an image of a small inn offfering shelter to the weary seems stirkingly appropriate at this time of year.  The same image also expresses very clearly what this web site has become for me - a hospice in the ancient meaning of the term, a hospital where weary from my travels I am able to seek refuge, rest, and the nourishment and support necessary to continue on my journey the next day.

I want to thank all of you, fellow pilgrims and companions for the comfort of your friendship, the nourishment of your affection, the wisdom of your counsel.  It is not an easy journey to be sure, but your loveliness and courage makes it a lighter one for me.

Merry Christmas to all of you. You have given me your friendship, support, and understanding.  Better gifts are not to be found.

I also want to thank each of you for your words of wisdom, humor, courage and at times outrage. This is the first place I look each morning and Jim you put a smile on my face today. As others have expressed, you really need to write a book.

As we hold eachother close may we give eachother the strenght needed to truely enjoy this time of year.

Merry CHristmas to all.

Merry Christmas to you all. Pablo can't walk at all now so it will be heavy lifting. But I send love and greetings to all and may peace flow through this season no matter what!

Merry Christmas everyone,

its a wonderful thing to see contacts become friends  - coming together as a group - to support each other, share and validate each other

as a retired caregiver and as a grandma to a little girl who will always need care - I applaud you all.  Your path is full of challenges but also brings you much fulfillment -

be kind to yourself today - wishing you all a good Christmas and a thank you on behalf of the loved ones you care for.
to them You are their world.

Happy Christmas to All:

Greetings from the West of Canada, Santa was here last night but we do not open the gifts until all the family arrives, sometimes about11:30 and we will be having brunch.

To all I pray that this Christmas will bring some peace to all who share in the caring of a loved one.  I wish them rest and time to their selves and take time out to enjoy the holiday if they can.

Time has run short for me, awake most of the night for the past week so will be go glad when the family gets here so I can sneak away and get a rest and perhaps a nap.

To all like Tiny Tim Said, God Bless us one and all.  (or something like that)

Hugs and Christmas Wishes to all.

It's mid morning on Christmas Day, and everyone in my house is still asleep - apart from Lola Mai (the Yorkie) and me.

I met you all on a discussion forum where we talk about some of the hardest things life can offer - illness, death, grief and loss. And my life is so much richer for knowing you and talking with you.

Thank you for all you mean to me.

Katherine
